St. Mary's Visitation - Sunset Playhouse performance, golf outting, May crowning

SMV partners with Sunset Playhouse and performs plays by Mo Willems.
SMV and Sunset Playhouse partnered to offer Grades 1 – 3 an after school theater class. Students participated in a Center Stage: Goof off with Mo Willems class. Seventeen first through third graders met to ignite their love and appreciation for the performing arts. Students worked with the three tools of the actor: body, voice, and imagination. This foundation class is the perfect introduction to the world of theatre. Students used theatre games and exercises to explore the basics of acting – warm-ups, stage directions, voice, movement, and improvisation while learning ensemble building skills and gaining self-confidence. Students then applied these skills to perform a play on the last day of class. The session took students on adventures through the fabulous children’s books written by Mo Willems. Students performed a compilation of plays based on seven favorite Mo Willems’ books from the Pigeon and Piggy and Gerald series. On the final day of class, students finished costumes, set design, and final staging in Sunset’s Studio Theater. Family and friends enjoyed the final performance.

SUMMER KEYBOARDING CLASS
Keyboarding has become more and more critical, now that education has moved into the digital world. Students at SMV work on keyboarding regularly, but nothing beats a power class right before the start of the new school year. Students entering grades 3-8 are invited to take part in Miss Benson's summer keyboarding class. Please see the attached registration form for more information. Questions? Call or e-mail Miss Benson.

GIRLS ROCK 2012
The 2012 Girls Rock Program has concluded. This year about 30 SMV school and parish girls collected to learn about their Feminine Genius, how to grow in virtue, to listen carefully to the quiet Voice of Jesus speaking to their hearts, and to get to know a saint like St. Philomena who is powerful with God. The girls enjoyed a pizza party sing-along with Adele and Christina Perry and each girl received a virtue booklet and a St. Philomena notebook. A charm necklace is in the works for each participant. We hope that the 8th grade Girls Rockers will always remember the Mae Mobley Theology of the Body message, "Theology of the Body is special, Theology of the Body is smart, Theology of the Body is important."

MAY CROWNING
During the month of May, we as Catholics traditionally honor Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth. To celebrate Mary's devotion to Christ, we will once again be crowning her in our parish on May 7th beginning at 6:30PM. This is taking place in the evening so that parents can accompany their children and share the devotion!
St. Mary's Christian Women will be sponsoring this 30 minute devotion. It will feature special participation by our 8th graders as they take the first step in their farewell to St. Mary's Visitation. Our 2nd graders will also participate in recognition of their First Holy Communion.
