St. Mary's Visitation 8th Graders rock! Pink for Breast Cancer and the Seton Tournament

Eighth Graders wear pink bandanas to raise money, awareness for Breast Cancer

Each month, one grade is chosen to pick a charity to raise awareness and funds.  In October, the 8th graders voted on ideas and decided on Breast Cancer Awareness.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The charity they chose is the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition (WBCC).  The Executive Director of the WBCC, Dawn Anderson, was a speaker at a school-wide presentation on October 17th.

The 8th graders showed their support  for Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink bandanas.  They also passed out Breast Cancer Awareness stickers at the door to all those who attended the presentation.

On, Wednesday, October 24, students can participate in the fund-raising by bringing in a dollar for the WBCC.  Students who bring in a dollar are allowed to wear jeans along with their SMV t-shirts with a biblical verse from Thessalonians that SMV uses as a motto: “Encourage one another & build each other up.”

Thank you, Eighth Grade!!!

SETON VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

We are so excited for both the girls and boys 8th grade teams as they have received an invite to the Seton Volleyball Tournament.  Mike and Margaret Thew are the coaches for both teams.   The Thew's have been coaching for about 17 years.  Margaret commented on her coaching experience at SMV:

"I love the energy the 8th graders have.  During 8th grade, the kids really want to leave behind a legacy so their work ethic is very good.  Mike and I have coached kids from many different schools and age groups from 5th grade through high school and the students at SMV are the most respectful and supportive of each other.  They truly build each other up.  The parents are equally as supportive and so greatly appreciate the time coaches spend with the kids."

Games are played at Center Court in Waukesha and the championship will be held at Catholic Memorial.

The Seton Volleyball Tournament runs from October 29th - November 4th
