SMV 2nd Grader works on robotics at Marquette Engineering class
In October, St. Mary's Visitation 2nd grade student, Christian Sinense built a robotic bird using a laptop and programmed it to fly to the beat of music. Christian was part of the WeDo LEGO Robotics class at the Marquette University School of Engineering. What a great example of our SMV students extending their science learning outside of school. We are so proud of this achievement.

St. Mary's Visitation wins 1st Place at the Seton Tournament
St. Mary's Visitation School 8th grade boys volleyball team took 1st place in the Seton Tournament. Congratulations to our boys and our coaches, Mike and Margaret Thew!!!

St. Mary's Visitation - Math Competitions and Quiz Bowl
The participants are students at junior high schools and middle schools from
Wisconsin and Illinois. We will have approximately 12 teams from 5 schools
participating. There are about 25 SMV junior high students who participate.
Quiz bowl, scholastic bowl, or academic competition is the name for a number of
related academic events. Students compete on teams of four to buzz in,
answering trivia-type questions about history, geography, literature, science,
math, religion, fine arts, and popular culture. Each game lasts about 25
minutes, and students will generally play eight to ten games on a tournament
day. St. Mary's teams placed in the top 25 at the Middle School National
Championship Tournament in 2011 and 2012.

St. Mary's Visitation Junior High Students Skype with NASA Scientists
St. Mary's Visitation Junior High Students work with NASA on maximizing solar energy
SMV's junior high science classes are working with solar panels (provided courtesy of NASA) to figure out how to utilize maximum solar energy. The classes simulated the solar panels found on Juno, the NASA spacecraft travelling to Jupiter. Grade 8 "Skyped" one of the lead NASA scientists, who explained which design NASA chose to solve the problem. Juno departed in Aug. 2011, and is slated to reach Jupiter in 2016....long after these students graduate from SMV!
