The Elm Grove Public Library, established and supported by the citizens of Elm Grove, provides access to library facilities, resources, and services necessary to meet the informational, educational, and leisure needs of all the people in the community. It assembles, preserves, and administers an organized collection of print and non-print materials to fill those needs. It places special emphasis on stimulating interest and life-long appreciation for reading and learning among children and adults alike
Want to give away some free books? On April 23, 2014, you can do just that as we celebrate World Book Night 2014. Join us in spreading your love of reading by applying to be a book giver for this year’s World Book Night. The Elm Grove Public Library is proud to be a supporter of this great event and will be serving as an official pickup site for the books this year. Best of all, it’s free, fun, and easy. But you must hurry; the deadline to apply is January 5.
Celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday by joining the 25,000 volunteers who will go into their communities to give away a half million specially-printed paperbacks to light or non-readers across America. Volunteers will receive a box of 20 books to give away, and there is a selection of 38 great titles to choose from this year. This is your chance to let others discover your favorite book. Let’s show America that Elm Grove is passionate about fostering a strong community that loves to read.
The application process is fast and easy; it simply involves providing your name, address, and just a few sentences explaining why you would like to be a book giver. 95% of those who apply are accepted. Sign up online at www.us.worldbooknight.org, where you can also read up on the guidelines and view the list of this year’s books. After you apply, you will be notified sometime in February regarding your status. While books cannot be shipped directly to your home, you can select to pick your books up at the Elm Grove Library. Then join us at the library for a special reception the week of April 14, where you will be able to collect your box of books in advance of World Book Night. If you cannot attend the reception, you can pick up your books at any other time. There is absolutely no cost for being a book giver, and it takes very little of your time. Book givers must be at least 16 years old. Let’s make World Book Night 2014 a smashing success in Elm Grove; please consider a small donation of your time to this worthwhile cause in support of literacy and community.
