The Library Lowdown

The Elm Grove Public Library, established and supported by the citizens of Elm Grove, provides access to library facilities, resources, and services necessary to meet the informational, educational, and leisure needs of all the people in the community. It assembles, preserves, and administers an organized collection of print and non-print materials to fill those needs. It places special emphasis on stimulating interest and life-long appreciation for reading and learning among children and adults alike

Consumer Reports Online is available for free; all you need is a library card.

Are you in the market for a new household appliance, but unsure of what brand to buy? Perhaps you’re wondering about the safest new tires for your car? Conducting consumer research can be a frustrating exercise, largely because you don’t know who to trust or where to turn. Thankfully, your troubles are over.

The Elm Grove Library, along with all other Waukesha County libraries, now provides you with full access to Consumer Reports online, the web’s most trusted resource for unbiased reviews of everyday consumer products. Consumer Reports has been in existence since 1936, and as an independent, non-profit organization, their reviews have long been viewed as thorough and fair; the gold standard in consumer research. In addition to carrying Consumer Reports magazine in the library, full access to all of the magazine’s online resources is now available right from your own home. The best news of all is that it is absolutely free; all you need is a library card from any of Waukesha County’s 16 member libraries. To access Consumer Reports online from home, click this link, enter your library card number, and you’re instantly connected to research on the latest products and services, safety recalls, and more.  You can also visit elmgrovelibrary.org, and scroll down and click the link that reads “Internet Web Sites and Databases.” On the next page, you will see the Consumer Reports logo. Click on the logo, and you will be connected as well. If you have any questions about Consumer Reports online, call the library at (262) 782-6717.
