Kyle and her husband moved to Brookfield in 1986. She became active in local politics and started blogging in 2004. Her focus is primarily on local issues but often includes state and national topics, too. A reader alerted me to this event tonight. Thanks!
Elmbrook's Wisconsin Hills Middle School 7th grade Odyssey of the Mind team recently won at the state level competition. This win means the students qualify for the next level, the World Finals, at Iowa State University, which take place May 27 - 30.
The team members include, Tony Gulotta, Zamir Johl, Neal Mathes, Mitchell Mellone, Eddie Pronley, Austin Tyshynsky, and Tyler Gray-Hoehn. I am familiar with 2 of those last names. Maybe you are too?
To help with expenses: entry fees, transportation, lodging, and food costs, the group is holding a fundraising concert, raffle, and auction tonight at the Mitchell Park Pavilion from 6:30 - 9:30pm. (The pavilion is the smaller building south of the Wilson Center.)
The concert features the music duo Beach, Buffett and Boat Tunes, Kevin Mulvenna & Jim Hoehn (team member Tyler Gray-Hoehn's dad.) They have performed locally at Summerfest and State Fair as well as other venues in the U.S.:
As a duo or solo performing songwriters, Jim and Kevin have appeared at a wide range of tropical music events in Key West, New Orleans and Las Vegas; performed at Summerfest, State Fair and several prestigious Texas music festivals; opened for the likes of Don McLean, Jerry Jeff Walker, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jack Ingram and Roger McGuinn; as well as live
performances on the Mitch Albom show and Radio Margaritaville.
"The suggested donation is $15 per family (or couple or whatever) with ALL proceeds going directly toward the Odyssey of the Mind team's travel costs."
Brats, hot dogs, chips, and soda/water will be available for purchase too. (They are not allowed to sell alcohol, but BYO is allowed.) Do bring your own lawn chairs though.
They will also be selling raffle tickets for a hand painted Watermelon chair as well as a $100 gift certificate for Flemings Steakhouse.
A Brewers themed chair will be up for auction from local artist Gerri Krysiak. (Think Father's Day gift?)
I don't know if the weather will cooperate tonight, but the cause is sure to warm your heart and the music put you in a tropical mood.
