Kyle and her husband moved to Brookfield in 1986. She became active in local politics and started blogging in 2004. Her focus is primarily on local issues but often includes state and national topics, too. Kyle looks at things from the taxpayers' perspective in a creative, yet down to earth way, addressing them from a practical point of view.
It's Independence Day! A day set aside to celebrate the birthday of our nation.
The second paragraph of The Declaration of Independence states:
Many people today believe their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness is being threatened by an overreaching government. They are exercising their 1st Amendment rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of speech to protest high taxes by attending Taxpayer Tea Parties.
The Tea Party is of course inspired by the first Boston Tea Party where American colonists protested what they believed to be an unjust system of taxation. " No taxation without representation" was their cry.
Today's Tea Party planners and attendees are just borrowing a page from history that predates the birthday of our nation by 3 years.
The first wave of contemporary Taxpayer Tea Parties peaked on April 15th of this year, but there are Tea Parties scheduled for July 4th as well. American Family Association has registered over 1,465 Tea Parties across our nation and state for this Independence Day.
Reason?
Americans for Prosperity has registered Tea Parties too: Jay Weber is host to one on July 4th at the Sendik's Village Center in Germantown from 10AM-2PM. Contact: 262-253-1675.
So as you celebrate our nation's birthday this Independence Day by attending parades, fireworks, and picnics, know that some Americans are reaching further back into our nation's history and holding Tea Parties.

Is that anything like a Handyman Hemp Smoke? Our gardener goes to those all the time. In fact, I believe he's growing some of it in my back yard this summer!

Is that the best you can do?

So, how does the Heritage Foundation want us to balance the budget? By banning abortion?!?

NYTimes is hardly the independent authority on the deficit numbers. However, if we use the number in the cited article, you are incorrect in saying Obama only contributed $56B, you conveniently forgot the $148B stimulus.

Are you confusing the TARP with the stimulus? The stimulus was all Obama's. Even before he took office, he started selling the plan that will create 3M jobs! Oh, wait, it is create or "SAVE"!
Obama also supported the TARP (like Bush supported the stimulus as you have mentioned), shall we add the TARP to Obama's column?
The NYTime article is very misleading on its numbers. The impact from Obama's stimulus and other program is limited to THIS year's number. Long term, the stimulus along will cost over $800B, not the $156B cited in the article.
