The Brookfield Central girls basketball team used a big third quarter to crush Menomonee Falls, 57-39, at Central and move one game out of second place and two out of first in the Greater Metro Conference.
The win left Central at 5-3 (8-6 overall) one game behind Falls (6-2, 13-3) and Sussex Hamilton (6-2, 10-2) and two games behind first-place Divine Savior Holy Angels (7-1, 10-3) with the Dashers coming to Central on Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers played with a passion that they had been missing for most of the season, trailing 19-11 with 4:20 left in the half, when the Lancers went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 19 at intermission.
Nicole Hinz started the run with a big rebound basket, and then Jasime Lewis dropped in two free throws. Sarah Fotsch then hit a jumper and Anna Liewen two free throws in the final seconds of the half.

The Elmbrook School District is hosting open houses for families of fall 2012 5-year-old kindergartners at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 31 at Brookfield, Burleigh, Dixon, Swanson and Tonawanda elementary schools.
The open houses will include a tour and registration materials will be available.
Families with a child who will be 5 on before Sept. 1 were mailed a packet with their designated school. The district asks that any family with a kindergarten-eligible child that did not receive the packet contact Elmbrook's communications department at (262) 783-2960.
The Elmbrook Education Foundation wound up 2011 by raising the largest amount of money in the eight-year history of Ladies Night and is preparing for its next event, set for March.
The Nov. 29 Ladies Night held at Westmoor Country Club garnered just less than $36,000. The social event included specialty foods and beverages as well as a silent and live auction.
The Casino Royale social will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. March 3 at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, 19805 W. Capitol Drive. The event will feature casino games by Casino Party Specialists, a jewelry dig sponsored by Faye's Boutique, raffle prizes, and food from Maxie's Southern Comfort and Blue's Egg.

Waukesha - Waukesha County recycling staff will provide free blue bins for recyclables, while supplies last, at eight Waukesha County libraries in February and will be on hand during evening sessions to answer questions about recycling.
All the sessions run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., except at the Waukesha library where the hours will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
