Story times and playgroups meet at library this spring
The Elm Grove library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., is hosting a number of events for children this spring. Sessions are under way and end the last week in April.
The toddler play group meets from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. Children can play with toys and interact with other toddlers and their caregivers.
Preschool story time for children ages 3 and 4 is from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. The program features stories, rhymes and crafts.
Morning Coffee Break and story time is from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays. The program includes stories and activities for children ages 3 to 5 and coffee for their caregiver. Siblings are welcome.

Midwest Vocal Express presents Sweetheart Concert
Male a Capella choir Midwest Vocal Express will present a 1 p.m. concert Feb. 13 at Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road.
Songs from Broadway to Sinatra will be performed with a Midwest Vocal Express twist. Guests include John McGivern, master accordion player Stas Vengleski and Wisconsin Poet Laureate Marilyn Taylor.
A reception with confections from LeCakery will follow the concert.
All tickets are $40.

Marriage Celebration Service set for Feb. 14
Join Elm Grove and surrounding area couples to celebrate God's blessing of marriage at 5 p.m. Feb. 14 at Community United Methodist Church, 14700 Watertown Plank Road.
A gourmet meal is planned for after the service.

Author Doug Jacobson discusses WWII era book
The Friends of the Elm Grove Library will present an evening with author Doug Jacobson at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.
Jacobson will talk about his book "Night of Flames: A Novel of World War II." The book is a thriller about a Krakow university professor and her husband, a Polish cavalryman, who are separated and forced to flee Poland during the Nazi occupation.
The event also includes a book signing.
Elm Grove Garden Club planning for flower show
The Elm Grove Garden Club will next meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 18 in the home of Mary Ricklefs, 8745 Glencoe Circle, Wauwatosa.
Plans for the Standard Flower Show will be formulated and reviewed. The show will be held June 19 and 20 at the Brookfield Senior Center.

Murder Mystery Dinner part of Sunset's 50th Celebration
Sunset Playhouse will host a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20 at the playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road.
Guests can help solve a puzzling mystery with a group of super sleuths while dining on a meal provided by The Grove Restaurant.
A silent auction and cocktails will be offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a dinner and show beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $60 or $420 for a table of eight.

Used book sale returns to library for 24th year
The Friends of Elm Grove Library will hold the 24th annual used book sale at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., March 4 to 7.
It is the group's largest fundraiser; proceeds help the friends support the library.
Print and audio books, CDs, DVDs and cassettes will be for sale. Prices start at 50 cents for paperbacks and $2 for hardcover books. The Collector's Table will feature rare and special items individually priced.
The membership preview is from 6 to 9 p.m. March 4. Admission is free to FOEGL members and $10 for nonmembers.
The regular sale with free admission begins March 5, when the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 6, all items will be half-price.
A bag sale will be held from noon to 4 p.m. March 7. The price is $4 a bag, with no limit to the number of grocery bags.

Friends host cookbook exchange, demonstration
The Friends of Elm Grove Library will host a cookbook exchange at 7 p.m. March 24 at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.
Guests can bring one or more cookbooks that they would like to exchange. Guests can take one new-to-them cookbook for each one they bring.
The evening will begin with a demonstration by Le Cakery on how to make a jelly-roll cake for the Easter season.
Square dance raises funds for Waukesha Food Pantry
Community United Methodist Church of Elm Grove will sponsor The Square Dance for Duffers at 7 to 9 p.m. April 23 in its fellowship hall, 14700 Watertown Plank Road.
All proceeds will benefit the Food Pantry of Waukesha County.
People 13 or older who have seldom or never square danced are invited.
The cost is $7.
Singles are encouraged, and child care will be provided.
