'Escanaba' returns to Sunset stage

Audiences who loved "Escanaba in da Moonlight" can return again in "Escanaba in Love," showing Feb. 26 to March 20 at Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road.

This prequel to the hit deer-hunting comedy lands guests back at Soady deer camp 40 years before "Escanaba in da Moonlight." This time, the characters don't have 10-point bucks in their sights, but a lady named Big Betty Baloo. A whole new batch of Yooper Troopers pack this comedy with charm and laughs.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Performances also will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and 5 p.m. March 6, 13 and 20.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and $10 for students.

Used book sale returns to library for 24th year

The Friends of Elm Grove Library will hold the 24th annual used book sale at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., March 4 to 7.

It is the group's largest fundraiser; proceeds help the friends support the library.

Print and audio books, CDs, DVDs and cassettes will be for sale. Prices start at 50 cents for paperbacks and $2 for hardcover books. The Collector's Table will feature rare and special items individually priced.

The membership preview is from 6 to 9 p.m. March 4. Admission is free to FOEGL members and $10 for nonmembers.

The regular sale with free admission begins March 5, when the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 6, all items will be half-price.

A bag sale will be held from noon to 4 p.m. March 7. The price is $4 a bag, with no limit to the number of grocery bags.

Sunset celebrates 50th with Gala at Wisconsin Club

The first Sunset Playhouse performance was held on March 10, 1960.

Celebrate Sunset Playhouse's 50th Anniversary on March 10 at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W. Milwaukee Ave., Milwaukee, with an evening of food, fun, friendship and entertainment.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour followed by dinner. Volunteers and staff members will be honored throughout the evening.

Dinner will be followed by songs from Sunset's history, sung by alumni from each of its five decades.

Tickets for the event cost $40.

Friends host cookbook exchange, demonstration

The Friends of Elm Grove Library will host a cookbook exchange at 7 p.m. March 24 at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Guests can bring one or more cookbooks that they would like to exchange. Guests can take one new-to-them cookbook for each one they bring.

The evening will begin with a demonstration by Le Cakery on how to make a jelly-roll cake for the Easter season.

Square dance raises funds for Waukesha Food Pantry

Community United Methodist Church of Elm Grove will sponsor The Square Dance for Duffers at 7 to 9 p.m. April 23 in its fellowship hall, 14700 Watertown Plank Road.

All proceeds will benefit the Food Pantry of Waukesha County.

People 13 or older who have seldom or never square danced are invited.

The cost is $7.

Singles are encouraged, and child care will be provided.
