Used book sale returns to library for 24th year

The Friends of Elm Grove Library will hold its used book sale at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., Thursday through Sunday.

Proceeds help the Friends support the library.

Print and audio books, CDs, DVDs and cassettes will be for sale. Prices start at 50 cents for paperbacks and $2 for hardcover books. The collector's table will feature individually priced rare and special items.

The membership preview is from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free to FOEGL members and $10 for nonmembers.

The regular sale with free admission begins Friday, when the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, all items will be half-price. A bag sale will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The price is $4 a bag.

'Leading Ladies' looking for some leading actors

Auditions for the play "Leading Ladies" will be held March 8 and 9at Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road.

From the author of "Lend Me a Tenor" comes this frolic about two actors who have hit the skids acting "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge Circuit. When they hear that a nearby old woman is about to leave her fortune to her two long-lost nephews, they decided to pass themselves off as the boys. But when they find out that the missing nephews are actually missing nieces, they exchange their tights and codpieces for pantyhose and girdles.

Auditions are 7 to 10 p.m. March 8 and 9 with callbacks on March 10. Rehearsals are May 3 through June 3 with shows June 4 through 26.

Roles are available are for three women in their 20s to 70s and five men in their 20s to 60s.

Scripts can be checked out at the box office between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or between 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday, with a $10 deposit.

Leadership Luncheon set for Wednesday

The annual Women's Leadership Luncheon, hosted by the Milwaukee Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Notre Dame of Elm Grove, 13105 Watertown Plank Road.

The program aims to further the understanding of leadership by giving women leaders and the men who support them the opportunity to reflect on the integration of the spiritual and professional dimensions of life.

This year's speaker is Sherrie Tussler, executive director of the Hunger Task Force since 1997. She will share insights relating to her leadership experience in her talk, "Servant Leadership: Understanding How to Help by Getting Involved and Staying Involved."

Beverages and lunch will be served. The free event is made possible by the support of sponsors Mark and Sharon Cameli.

Sunset celebrates 50th with Gala at Wisconsin Club

The first Sunset Playhouse performance was held on March 10, 1960.

Celebrate Sunset Playhouse's 50th Anniversary on March 10 at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W. Milwaukee Ave., Milwaukee, with an evening of food, fun, friendship and entertainment.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour followed by dinner. Volunteers and staff members will be honored throughout the evening.

Dinner will be followed by songs from Sunset's history, sung by alumni from each of its five decades.

Tickets for the event cost $40.

Dooryard Gallery hosts first exhibition

New work by Wisconsin landscape painter Richard W. Patt will be featured in "The Wisconsin Landscape Abstracted" from March 20 to April 10 at The Dooryard Gallery, 13425 Watertown Plank Road.

Patt is numbered among the leading landscape artists working in Wisconsin. For several decades, he has portrayed the Midwestern countryside in watercolor, oil and acrylic.

His works range from photorealism to impressionism and features Door County among other familiar Wisconsin landscapes.

A reception for the artist will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. March 20 at the gallery.

The Dooryard Gallery's regular hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Friends host cookbook exchange, demonstration

The Friends of Elm Grove Library will host a cookbook exchange at 7 p.m. March 24 at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Guests can bring one or more cookbooks that they would like to exchange. Guests can take one new-to-them cookbook for each one they bring.

The evening will begin with a demonstration by Le Cakery on how to make a jelly-roll cake for the Easter season.

Square dance raises funds for Waukesha Food Pantry

Community United Methodist Church of Elm Grove will sponsor The Square Dance for Duffers at 7 to 9 p.m. April 23 in its fellowship hall, 14700 Watertown Plank Road.

All proceeds will benefit the Food Pantry of Waukesha County.

People 13 or older who have seldom or never square danced are invited.

The cost is $7.

Singles are encouraged, and child care will be provided.

Ladies Night Out benefits Fairview South School

Get glamorous with your favorite ladies at the third annual Elm Grove Woman's Club Ladies Night Out. The "27 Dresses" theme party will be from 6 to 9 p.m. May 6 at the club house, 13885 Watertown Plank Road.

Guests are invited to wear the bridesmaids or mother of the bride/groom dress they wish the bride had picked out for them, or to come dressed in the outlandish outfit she did actually did pick out for you.

Admission is $20 and includes boutique shopping, appetizers, a complimentary raffle ticket and live music. There will be a cash bar.
