Senior Taxi program's growth celebrated

A celebration and fundraiser for the Muskego Senior Taxi took place at the Regency Senior Communities in Muskego on July 31.

The event featured guest appearances by "Elvis," otherwise known as Tony Rocker, and "Patsy Cline," also known as Karen Wickham. A display of classic Corvettes and Cadillacs drew interest, but, as usual, the rib dinner was a favorite.

Jim Nichols of Muskego, president of the Board of Directors of the Muskego Senior Taxi, welcomed the large crowd picnicking on the grounds and introduced members of the board.

They included Sandy Mareno of New Berlin, vice president; Glenda Holm of Muskego; Kathy Chiaveroti of Muskego; John Pledl of Muskego; Bill Schneider of Muskego; Ray Schrank of Muskego; and Jack Spoerl of New Berlin. Dan Henry of New Berlin is coordinator of the Senior Taxi.

Nichols also identified and honored volunteer drivers for the Senior Taxi, including Dan Barry of New Berlin, Jim Depies of Big Bend, Becky Dublinski of Muskego, Mike Gorski of Big Bend, Diane Johnson of Muskego, Jean Marenda of Muskego and Carol Stillwell of Muskego. Marenda commented, "I love doing it. People are so appreciative."

The Senior Taxi uses two, four-door LeSabre Buicks to transport passengers. Ridership has grown from 17 trips in April 2008, when the taxi service began, to 300 per month. The most frequent destination is to medical appointments and health-related locations.

Special recognition was given to Muskego Mayor John Johnson, whose support, as well as the financial support of the city, make the taxi possible.
