Spartanettes will collect donations for cancer walk

Brookfield East High School's Spartanettes will participate Sept. 27 in the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure through Badgerette Pom Pons. To support the effort, donations will be collected at the Brookfield Central High School vs. Brookfield East High School football game Friday.

East poms team takes fifth at State Fair

For the first time in more than a decade, the Brookfield East High School Spartanette competed at the Wisconsin State Fair Pom Pon competition Aug. 9, taking fifth place in Division 1A.

The team's performance qualified it for the Midwest Invitational Competition through Badgerette Camp, and earned it a spot in the Grand Champion Division.

The girls took seventh place in the Open Competition Routine and second place in the Jazz Division, making them one of the top ten squads in the Midwest.

The team will perform their competition-winning routines at home football, soccer and basketball throughout this school year. The Spartanettes will also compete at the Bucks Competition Dec. 12 and the WACPC Regional Competition Jan. 30, which is a qualifier for state.

Brookfield Academy begins year with record enrollment

Brookfield Academy opened its doors Sept. 8 for the private, independent school's 48th year, welcoming 808 students. The record enrollment is an increase of 18 students over the previous year.

Fourteen new members have joined the school's staff, and six new full- and part-time positions were created and filled for the academic year.

Sign up now to take fall ACT

Students planning to take the ACT on Oct. 24 must register by Friday.

Registration forms for the college admission and placement exam are available in high school counseling offices. The forms must be postmarked by Friday.

Students also may register online at actstudent.org. The Web site has additional information, free sample items and options for ordering test preparation materials.

The cost to take the ACT test, without the optional writing test, is $32. When combined with the writing test, the cost is $47. Students who qualify can apply for a fee waiver through their high school counselor.

Late registration is available between Saturday and Oct. 2 for an extra $21 fee.
