Police distributing glow necklaces on Halloween
The Elm Grove Police Department is reminding residents to use extra caution while driving during trick-or-treating hours Saturday.
Elm Grove's trick-or-treat will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
Due to low light conditions, heavily wooded areas and children in costume, it can be hard to see the trick-or-treaters, said police Sgt. Jason Kubiak.
This year the department will help children stay more visible with officers and volunteers handing out glow necklaces in the neighborhoods.
In addition, residents can pick up glow necklaces at the front desk of the Elm Grove Police Department, 13600 Juneau Blvd., from 3 to 5 p.m. on Halloween.
Visit the village Web site at www.elmgrovewi.org for details.
'No parking' signs pass another hurdle
The Elm Grove Legislative Committee has approved changing the parking ordinance to include no parking on Elm Grove Street.
Under the ordinance, there would be no parking on the east side of Elm Grove Street from Watertown Plank Road to Juneau Boulevard.
The change was prompted by increased traffic on Elm Grove Street from successful restaurants.
While it is illegal to park across from another vehicle on any village street, that situation kept arising on the road and created a safety hazard, as emergency vehicles could not pass.
The Village Board must approve the change.
