The state's Powerball switch to $2 tickets paid off in a big way for one local winner. Wisconsin had three big Powerball winners Saturday, including its first $1 million winner since the game changed to $2 in January. A ticket in Rhode Island claimed Saturday night's $336.4 million Powerball jackpot, according to a Wisconsin Lottery news release.
The $1 million ticket was sold at the Greenfield Avenue Pick 'n Save in Brookfield. That ticket matched all five regular winning numbers, but not the Powerball.
Until January when Powerball became a $2 game, that ticket would have been worth $200,000. The $1 million winner has yet to be indentified and must claim his prize at the lottery's headquarters in Madison within 180 days of Saturday's drawing.
The Powerball jackpot now returns to $40 million for the Feb. 15 drawing.
