Brookfield Academy

The Rising Stars Art Program invites parents with a 3-year-old into the world of "Mini Masters." Play with paint like Monet. Draw like Matisse. Create with clay like Degas. For information, call Mary Ricci at (262) 783-3200.

Brookfield Central

The DECA team is raising money with a fundraiser hosted by T.G.I.Friday's, 17430 W. Bluemound Road, all day Jan. 23. Obtain a flyer from the school website, and take it to the restaurant that day to have 25 percent of the cost of your meal donated to the team.

Brookfield Christian

This past week, the second-grade class has been working on final drafts of their personal narratives, and the strategy of drawing conclusions in reading. The class just finished up a unit on maps and patriotic symbols, and how those symbols relate to our country and its past.

Brookfield East

The Spanish Honor Society went to La Casa de Esperanza on Jan. 5 to assist with the annual Three Kings Event, which celebrates the Three Kings Holiday celebrated in many Spanish-speaking countries. La Casa distributes gifts to all registered families. Spanish Honor Society, in addition to assisting with the celebration, also purchased many of the gifts for this event. SHS raised money through a change drive. Students that are presently taking a language donated money to purchase gifts for La Casa de Esperanza.

Brookfield Elementary

Families are taking part in Splashtacular, a fun evening at the Country Springs Hotel Water Park on Jan. 17.

Burleigh Elementary

Kindergarten students are exploring fish in their FOSS science unit. They are learning about fish and how they exist in their habitats.

Dixon Elementary

The Brookfield Women's Club hosted a Design Day for a new Universally Accessible Playground proposed for Mitchell Park on Tuesday. Design Day featured children's activities, an architect's presentation and volunteer opportunities. The playground will include cooperative games, multi-sensory activity structures, and musical, educational and artistic components. Dixon students participated in a morning design session.

Immanuel Lutheran

Immanuel is gearing up for its annual basketball tournament. Spirit Week is Jan. 21 through Jan. 25 with a different theme each day. Monday is pajama/movie day; Tuesday each class will dress according to an assigned decade; Wednesday will be Neon Dress Day; Thursday is Crazy Day; and Friday is Spirit Wear and Pep Rally Day. The tournament begins Jan. 24, when the seventh- and eighth-grade girls have games and continues Jan. 25 when the eighth-grade boys play. The tournament continues through the weekend.

Pilgrim Park

Middle School

Music students recently had the opportunity to rock the BMO Harris Bradley Center. On Jan. 4, a choir ensemble had the opportunity to sing the national anthem prior to the Milwaukee Buck's game. Not to be outdone, the school's drum line followed up with a performance at the Buck's game Jan. 8.

St. Dominic

St. Dominic Catholic School accepts registrations for 3-year-olds throughout the school year. Call the school office, (262) 783-7565, if you want to find out more about the 3-year-old kindergarten program. In other news, St. Dominic School is sponsoring a coat drive for Grantosa School in Milwaukee Public Schools. Gently used coats can be donated through Jan. 18.

St. John Vianney

As part of the integrated literacy program, St. John Vianney held its all-school spelling bee Jan. 9. More than 200 students from grades five through eight competed in individual classroom spelling bees for a chance to participate in the all-school spelling bee.

St. Mary's Visitation

St. Mary's Visitation School will welcome Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki on Jan. 21. In anticipation of Catholic Schools Week, the archbishop is celebrating a special all-school Mass with St. Mary's pastor, the Rev. Peter Berger at 8 a.m. in the church. The archbishop plans to visit the classrooms after Mass and will pose with the students in an all-school photo. Catholic Schools week runs Jan. 27 through Feb. 2. St. Mary's will kick off the week with an open house from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27; all are invited to attend. This year's theme is "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards," and St. Mary's Visitation has a week of special activities planned to mark the celebration.

Swanson Elementary

The fifth-graders in Katherine Sommerville's class have been reading nonfiction text and researching a country. They presented their country at the Multicultural Fair on Tuesday. The students were excited to share what they have learned with their family and friends.

Tonawanda Elementary

It is Read to Succeed time once. This is a free program that encourages kids to do some recreational reading. Reading logs have been given to all interested students. If students choose to participate they need to read for 360 minutes, keep a reading log, have a parent/guardian sign it and turn it in by Feb. 15. By doing this students will receive a free ticket to Six Flags. Tonawanda students are expected to be reading each night. They may include those minutes toward the 360 needed minutes on this reading log.

Wisconsin Hills

Middle School

Eligible students are taking part in a field trip to the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells on Jan. 23.
