Level 2 students enjoyed Ellis Island Day on May 15. During this annual event, students made their way through make-shift immigration stations created and staffed by teachers and parents. Students dressed in the style of their ancestors and learned about the challenges of making it to America, and how some of the hopeful were turned away due to health problems.

Pre-K students participated in Bike Day last week, and Officer Denise Carroll from the Brookfield Police Department came to talk to the kids about bike safety. Following her talk, the kids, who brought their bikes to school, went outside to wash and then decorate their bikes before having some fun riding together.
The 15th annual Spartan Golf Outing is schedule for June 10 at Westmoor Country Club. The event will raise money to renovate the baseball and softball fields. The Parent Teacher Organization will host a meet and greet for Dan Westfahl, the incoming principal, from 4 to 5 p.m. June 5 at the school. Students will meet Westfahl that same day in the afternoon at the end of year dance party, and he will stay after school to meet the families.
Students will have an opportunity to show off their musical talents in music classes this week. Students will sing a favorite song, dance to their favorite music, play a homemade instrument, or present a report on their favorite music.
This week, fourth-graders worked on creating travel brochures to explore the nation's geography. Students had to research their destinations and provide pictures. Students will continue to work on their brochures next week, and will print them off and present them to their families for the upcoming 50 state celebration.
Elm Grove Lutheran
Students took first place at the Knowledge Bowl Competition, where they competed against area Lutheran schools. The team consists of seven students from sixth- through-eighth grade. Team members included Angela Lee, Hannah Margrett, Matt Ewert, Mark Midtbo, Owen Krueger, Joshua Zhang and Kathleen Wierzschowski. The coaches are Mrs. Kerrie Roesler and Mrs. Deb Margrett.
Eighth-graders returned late Friday from a three-day trip to Chicago. The students went to Navy Pier, the Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, Tall Windy Ship and on an Architectural Cruise.
Sixth-grade students last week met with author Amy Timberlake, as she spoke about the writing process and her latest book, "One Came Home," a historical novel that takes place in northern Wisconsin. Timberlake also stuck around to sign books.
St. John Vianney
Students teamed up with St. John Vianney to present an end-of-the-year concert series. The bands played at St. Dominic's for families, students and staff on May 14, and then played the following day at St. John Vianney.
St. Mary's Visitation
Sixth-graders recently took a trip to the Waukesha County Materials Recycling Facility as part of their science class. The students toured the building and learned about reducing, recycling, reusing and rotting. They learned how simple habits, such as using refillable water bottles and reusable lunch containers, can make a huge difference for our environment.
On May 31 students and their families will participate in a fourth-grade Wisconsin Museum Walk. The event will take place in the classrooms prior to the art and music presentation.
Students honored their teachers and school administrators during Teacher Appreciation Week.
The school announced plans for the eighth-grade graduation, which will take place June 7 at the school. Parents can enjoy light refreshments, raffle prizes and a chance to purchase photos of the ceremony.
