The grand opening of the new school library was held Sept. 23. Volunteers worked long hours to make a beautiful learning environment with additional space, more computers, a new flat-screen television for video presentations and a wall of windows to make the library more welcoming. Also there are now more than 10,000 books available for student enrichment. Please note that while Pam Ganswindt was identified last week as one of three new teachers joining the school this year, she is one of the school's veteran teachers. St. John Vianney

To infuse classroom learning with real-world experiences, fifth-graders traveled back in time to Wisconsin's own Buckskinner Encampment in Hartford to learn about life in the 1700s and 1800s. The encampment offers several examples of life in past times by demonstrating fur trading, cooking, blacksmithing, quill working and more. The students also experienced a merchant market where they could purchase period items. From the experience, the fifth-graders will create their own merchant market, complete with homemade items to sell and trade with their classmates.

Tonawanda Elementary

The school is proud of its new and improved digs. The report from the first weeks of school is that students are most excited about their new restrooms and the bright orange touches throughout that signify "our pride as Tonawanda Tigers!"
