Your eyes are not fooling you. The water in Underwood Creek in Elm Grove and Brookfield is green, but there is no need to be alarmed.
The city of Brookfield is testing for leaks in its sanitary and storm sewer system as mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. The green fluorescent dye used in the testing empties into the creek. Brookfield Public Works Director Thomas Grisa said the dye is non-toxic and testing will continue for the next few weeks.
"The dye is safe for the creek and its inhabitants," Grisa said. "A resident sent me a picture of ducks swimming in the creek this morning."
Elm Grove conducted similar tests last week.
