There will be pups aplenty at Mitchell Park on Sept. 7, enjoying the festivities at Elmbrook Humane Society's Wagfest with their human companions.
The annual one-day festival includes food, music by Room to Move, shopping, a silent auction and raffles, with prizes including Harley-Davidson collectibles, Green Bay Packers packages and a "Party Time Wheelbarrow" filled with premium liquor and fine wines.
Wagfest has grown from a 5K run and walk to a full festival with more than 80 vendors and various sponsors, humane society officials said. More than 5,000 people are expected to attend, with their furry friends in tow. While dogs may dominate the scene, other animals are welcome as well.
Just one of the many new attractions at Wagfest 2013 will be the addition of a third lure course. In this activity, dogs exercise by chasing a mechanically operated lure.
"The lure course area is always packed at Wagfest," said Rachel Coolbroth, EBHS's director of community relations and development. "Guests will wait by the course to exercise their dogs, which is why it was necessary to add a third course, to cut down on the sometimes long wait times."
Microchipping and nail-trimming also will be offered.
Admission and parking are free. EBHS will provide a free shuttle for people and pets to and from the Mitchell Park parking lots.
All proceeds from Wagfest will benefit the animals at the Elmbrook Humane Society, the only no-kill shelter in Waukesha County.
