Bulldogs sweep series with Blue Sox
Team now tied for first place
For the second time this season, the Brookfield Bulldogs beat the Brookfield Blue Sox in Land O' Lakes Western Division action.
The Bulldogs clobbered the Blue Sox, 11-1, on Saturday at McCoy Field. Back on June 7, the Bulldogs also defeated the Sox, 7-1.
The Bulldogs jumped on Blue Sox pitcher John Arnold for eight runs in the second inning and never looked back, pounding out 16 hits in the win. Greg Basthemer got the win, giving up just one run on five hits in six innings while striking out eight and walking just one. Alex Tomter pitched three scoreless innings, giving up two hits while striking out one and walking one.
Jason Rutz led the Bulldogs, going 4-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs, and Mike Jacobs was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Scott Booth was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and Eric Sobczak was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
The Bulldogs are now 11-2 and tied with Oconomowoc and Lannon for first place. The Bulldogs host Oconomowoc on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Menomonee Falls on Sunday at 1 p.m., both games at McCoy Field.
The Blue Sox (3-9) hit the road against Lannon at Joecks Memorial Field at 2 p.m. Saturday and then face Hartland at Nixon Park at 1 p.m. Sunday.
All-Star results - The Western Division, managed by the Bulldogs' Jason Booth, beat the Northern Division, 20-2, on Sunday.
The West had 16 hits and strong pitching. The Bulldogs had several contributors, as Ernest Castro was 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBIs and Shane Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.
Kris Franzen was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs and Jason Rutz was 1-for-2 with a walk, a hit by pitch and two RBIs while the Sox' Ken Poniewaz was 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI.
