Brookfield Academy's Huff signs with North Dakota

Brookfield Academy senior Troy Huff, a 6-foot, 5-inch combination guard from Milwaukee, signed a letter of intent for a full-ride basketball scholarship to the University of North Dakota on Friday.

He is the son of Theresa Huff and Troy Dawson.

A three-year starter for the Blue Knights, Troy averaged 16.2 points per game as a junior and was named second-team all-league for the Southern Division of the Midwest Classic Conference.

Ranked No. 15 among Wisconsin high school players in the Class of 2010 by Wishoops.net, Huff averaged 17.1 points a game as a sophomore and played AAU basketball for Wisconsin's Playground Elite team.

Huff will join a UND Fighting Sioux program that will be in its third year of transition to Division I basketball at the start of the 2010-11 season.

East's Lied signs to play tennis at Michigan State University

Tennis standout Drew Lied of Brookfield East signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play for Michigan State University, where he has been awarded an athletic scholarship.

Lied has been a varsity player and a WIAA state qualifier for the Spartans each of his first three years at Brookfield East, culminating in a fourth-place finish in spring.

He also has been selected as the team's Most Valuable Player each year and has served as a team captain for the past two seasons.

Schroeder signs to swim with Michigan State University

Brookfield Central senior Katie Schroeder signed a national letter of intent to swim for Michigan State University.

Schroeder made four straight trips to the state tournament, including this season as she qualified in the 100 butterfly, the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.

Sixth Turkey Trot set for Saturday at Wirth

Runners can support the Brookfield East Spartan Athletic Booster Club by taking part in the sixth annual Turkey Trot Fun Run and Walk on Saturday.

The 5-kilometer run/2-mile walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and is held at Wirth Park. Proceeds support athletics at Brookfield East High School. For information, e-mail Michelle at breiders@sbcglobal.net or Jim at jkalupa@wi.rr.com.
