Youth basketball tourney to raise funds for scholarships
The first Brookfield East Youth Basketball Classic is set for this Saturday and Sunday at the Brookfield East field house. The primary fundraising purpose of this tournament is to provide a foundation for the development of the Spartan Youth Basketball Scholarship Fund.
The proceeds of the tournament will serve as the initial investment in building this fund, which is targeted to provide financial assistance for post-secondary education for Spartan Youth Basketball participants who successfully complete four years at Brookfield East High School and exhibit good citizenship, community involvement and active participation in extracurricular activities during their tenure at Brookfield East.
In addition to this primary goal, organizers will be asking the youth basketball community to pull together with a separate onsite fundraising event to benefit Wauwatosa West head basketball coach Mike Landisch in his battle against kidney cancer.
There will be 17 teams on hand, including Brookfield Central and Brookfield East.
There will be tournaments Saturday for fourth, fifth and sixth grades, with the tip-off starting at 8:30 a.m. and all four courts being in use at the same time.
There also will be three tournaments on Sunday: a supplementary fourth-grade tournament, as well as seventh- and eighth-grade tournaments starting at 11 a.m.
