Brookfield Academy girls lose to Lake Country Lutheran

The Brookfield Academy girls basketball team dropped a 60-56 decision to Lake Country Lutheran in a battle for first place Saturday at home.

A 3-point shooting barrage by Cristina Zeppos and some patented Eimile Pesch drives to the basket staked the Blue Knights to a 20-15 first-quarter lead. Catherine Toledo provided 10 points and a number of steals, but the closest the Knights got was 58-56 with 20 seconds left in the game.

The second-place Blue Knights (7-3, 8-6 overall) entertain Racine Lutheran in a 1:30 p.m. Saturday game.

Two more athletes sign letters of intent

Two local athletes signed national letters of intent Feb. 3.

Brookfield East senior Alex Piercy has signed to play soccer at the University of Central Florida. Piercy is a three-year letter winner and has twice been named to the Greater Metro Conference all-conference team (first team in 2008, second team in 2009). She was an integral player for the Spartans' 2008 state runner-up team and last year's regional championship team.

Ellen Chamberlin of Elm Grove and Waukesha Catholic Memorial signed to play soccer at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Central girls track looking for impressive jump marks

Brookfield Central girls jumps coach Pete Wysocki is looking to put together a top-10 list for the long, high and triple jumps.

Wysocki is asking parents, athletes and other track fans if they are aware of jumps that would place them in the top 10 in these events.

They can e-mail Wysocki at wysockip@elmbrookschools.org.

U12 Bulldogs set March 14 fundraiser at Wilson Center

The Brookfield Bulldogs U12 team will hold a fundraiser at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts on March 14 to raise money for participation in the Cooperstown Field of Dreams tournament July 18 to 24.

It will be an appetizer buffet with a silent auction. The team is raising funds because the cost per child, not including airfare, is $750.

The team also is looking for corporate sponsors to help offset the cost of the trip.

Call Leslie Stollberg at (414) 708-1066 for information.
