Brookfield Central softball coach Dawn Mooney-Lazu is fired up about the Lancers' chances this season.
"I am very excited about the upcoming season," she said. "We lost three key players last year, but we have a veteran crew, who are more than able to step up, as well as two freshmen and four upperclassmen new to our team who will contribute as well."
The Lancers finished with an 8-10 record last season, winning three more games than the year before, while reaching the regional final.
Mooney-Lazu returns a senior, three juniors and two sophomores.
Junior shortstop Andrea Schneider, a second team all-conference performer, leads the way, along with senior captain and second baseman Lindsay Wille and sophomore first baseman/pitcher Brittney Held, an honorable mention all-conference selection.
Also returning are juniors Becky Copoulos, a centerfielder, and catcher Karly Haralson and sophomore infielder/outfielder Anna Liewen.
Mooney-Lazu also mentioned two freshmen who could make an impression: third baseman/catcher Jessica Meichtry and pitcher Taylor Held.
Senior outfielders Danielle Olsen and Ally Brown and junior outfielder/infielders Ariel Goodman and Lizzy Bews round out the team.
Central hosts Divine Savior Holy Angels on April 15, travels to West Allis Hale on April 19 and then hosts Sussex Hamilton on April 21.
