Blue Sox beat Pewaukee in Land O' Lakes action
John Arnold tossed a complete-game six-hitter, didn't walk a man and fanned five as the Brookfield Blue Sox baseball team beat Pewaukee, 8-2, on the road in Western Division Land O' Lakes action.
Trailing 2-1 after four innings, the Sox scored two in the fifth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth to coast to victory. Bill Posteluk had three hits, including a double and two RBIs, Paul Archambault added a double and two RBIs, and Jay Wojcinski singled, doubled and drove in a run and scored twice to lead a 12-hit attack.
East hires Gonring as strength/conditioning coach
Brookfield East High School has hired Brendan Gonring as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the Athletic Department.
He will collaborate with the school's head coaches to develop comprehensive programs to improve strength, agility and athleticism for all teams.
Gonring returns to East following a year as an intern with the University of Pittsburg football program. He is a graduate of Carroll University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science and served as an adjunct lecturer.
Central golfers earn Academic All-State honors
The Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association has named four Brookfield Central male athletes - Evan Anderson, Ryan Dickson, Paul Schleicher and Jack Wartman - Academic All-State honorees for boys golf this spring season.
Students are nominated by association member coaches and all are selected for this honor if they meet the following criteria: a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, participation in at least 75 percent of their team's varsity matches and at least sophomore status.
This year, 189 male golfers statewide were honored for maintaining high academic standards in the classroom while competing in varsity golf. The average cumulative GPA of those 189 golfers is an 3.820.
East basketball will host summer camps for boys
Brookfield East boys basketball coach Andy Farley has announced the dates for various summer boys basketball camps this month.
The shooting camp for fifth- through ninth-graders will be held from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.
The fundamentals camp for seventh- through ninth-graders will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. June 28 to July 1; the fundamentals camp for fifth- and sixth-graders will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. June 28 to July 1.
The Little Man Camp for first- through fourth-graders will be held from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. June 28 to July 1.
The fee is $75 for one session or $130 for two.

Central Baseball Mini-Camp to be held next week
Brookfield Central baseball coach Jeff Bigler will head up the 2010 Brookfield Area Mini-Camp for kids 7 to 12 from Wednesday to Friday.
The baseball camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the athletic fields behind Brookfield Central High School. The camp will be indoors if the weather is bad.
Campers must bring their own lunch and glove; a bat is optional. Drinks will be provided. The camp fee is $119, with $20 off for the second family member. For information about registration, call Jeff at (262) 797-8391.
Spartans set summer tennis camps
Brookfield East tennis coach Linda Lied has scheduled three weekly tennis camps and two mini-camps for this summer.
The weeklong camps will be from 2 to 5 p.m. June 21 to 25, June 28 to July 2 and July 19 to 23. The two-day mini-camps will be July 7 and 8, July 14 and 15 and August 2 and 3.
Lied's staff includes Royce Lindner, East boys coach; Michael Wesley, former University of Wisconsin-Green Bay tennis player; and Drew Lied, a four-time state qualifier from Brookfield East.
Fees are $175 for the weekly camps with a $25 discount for players attending multiple camps and $75 for the mini-camps with a $15 discount for players attending multiple camps.

Central boys basketball camps set for June
A basketball camp for players going into grades four to nine will be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday at Brookfield Central.
A basketball camp for incoming second- and third-grade boys will be held at Central from 11 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday.
A shooting camp for kids who will be entering grades four to 12 will be held June 21 to 24. Session one is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and session two is from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
A position camp for kids entering grades four to 12 will run June 28 to July 1. Session one will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and session two will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Brookfield East sets two girls basketball camps
Brookfield East has set up two girls basketball camps at the high school this summer.
The fundamentals camp is set for Tuesday and Wednesday. Dribbling, shooting and offensive and defensive skills will be the focus of the camp.
Girls entering fourth to sixth grades will meet from 10 a.m. to noon, and girls entering seventh to ninth grades will meet from 1 to 3 p.m.
Pay the $30 fee at the door; registration is not required. Arrive 15 minutes the first day of camp for check-in.
A day camp is scheduled for July 12 to 15, and it is designed to take a player's game to the next level. There will be fundamental skill sessions along with competitive games. Each camper will be assigned to a team and a coach to get individual instruction and learn the importance of working as a team. Register by June 27.
Session one, for girls entering kindergarten to grade three, will meet from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Session two, for girls entering fourth to sixth grade, will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Session three, for girls entering seventh to ninth grades, will meet from 1 to 3 p.m.
The cost for the day camp is $60 for session one and $80 for sessions two and three.
