Brookfield Bulldogs set tryouts Aug. 9, 10

The Brookfield Bulldogs have set up two-day tryouts on Aug. 9-10 for the 2011 season.

The U8/U9 tryouts are Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Brookfield Academy. The U10 tryouts are scheduled on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Brookfield Academy.

Local spiker helps win Junior National Title

Kyle Rhode of Brookfield East was among local volleyball players who helped the West Allis Lightning win the B16 Open Division title at the USA Boys Junior National Championships in Austin, Texas from July 3-6.

The team had an 11-0 match record and a 22-2 set record. The Lightning beat Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals, upset the top-seeded team from California in the semifinals and downed Chicago 25-17, 25-13 in the title match.

Trevor Novotny from Catholic Memorial High School was tournament MVP and he was joined on the all-tournament team by Nick Olson from New Berlin Eisenhower and teammate Peter Hutz and Michael Schneck from Marquette.

Two Brookfield golfers earn honorable mention all-state

Brookfield Central and Brookfield East high schools had golfers selected by the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association All-State Teams.

East senior Kyle Henning and Central junior Evan Anderson earned honorable-mention honors for their efforts in 2010.

Fifty-nine players were nominated by coaches throughout the state.

Brookfield woman wins inline speed skating title

Brookfield resident Mardy Juhl Goldsmith won the Grand Classic Women's Division at the inline speed skating National Championships in Lincoln, Neb., on July 6.

Juhl Goldsmith has been an inline roller speed skater for 20 years and has a long-time coach in Watertown - Marty Laufer, coach of the Wisconsin inline speed team.

Junior Crusader baseball tryouts set for July 31

The Waukesha Junior Crusader baseball tryouts for U9-U14 are set for July 31 at Catholic Memorial High School.

U9 and U12 tryouts start at 8:30 a.m., U10 and U13 at 10:30 a.m. and U11 and U14 at 12:30 p.m.

Spartans offer summer tennis camps

Brookfield East tennis coach Linda Lied has a weeklong camp and a mini-camp left on the schedule for this summer.

The weeklong camp will be from 2 to 5 p.m. July 19 to 23. The two-day mini-camp will be Aug. 2 and 3.

Fees are $175 for the weekly camps, with a $25 discount for players attending multiple camps; and $75 for the mini-camps, with a $15 discount for players attending multiple camps.

Racine Baseball Academy sets camp for August

The Hitters Baseball Academy in Racine will be holding the Midwest Top Prospect Baseball Camp, a instructional/exposure camp, from Aug. 2 to 6 for ages 14-18 and from Aug. 9 to 11 for ages 9-13.

Cost is $375 for 14-18 year olds and $275 for 9-13 year olds.
