Christ the King Church of Delafield Commemorates September 11 Anniversary

Sept. 2, 2011

Christ the King Lutheran Church of Delafield will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks with its “God Bless America” Rally Sunday 2011, on Sunday, September 11. The event will begin with 9 a.m. worship with the presentation of the Colors by Boy Scout Troop 20’s Color Guard.  St. John Northwestern Military Academy’s Silver Rifles, bagpipes and drums will add to the patriotic festivities. Children attending will receive small American flags and the congregation is invited to wear red, white, and blue.

Pastor Randy Gehring, lead pastor at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa, will be guest preacher at the service.  He will speak on the theme of “Out of the Dust, A New Beginning, Moving Forward.”

The third annual event will feature games and activities for people of all ages.  Guests will be invited to write letters to congregation members currently serving in the military.  Lunch will be served and participants are asked to bring a dessert or salad to share. A Country Store will offer home-baked and canned goods for purchase with proceeds supporting care packages sent to the congregation’s military members.

Rally Sunday will also give participants the opportunity to learn about the congregation’s programs. Representatives from Christ the King’s many groups will be available to greet visitors and explain about their organization’s programming. Registration will also be accepted for Sunday School and Confirmation classes.

An ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) church, Christ the King has nearly 1,000 parishioners and welcomes new members.  A special Saturday service is held each Saturday at 5 p.m., in addition to the regular Sunday service at 9 a.m. Its regular weekend worship schedule of 8:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays, as well as 5 p.m. on Saturdays, will begin on September 18.
