Mats Wilander to Conduct Drill Sessions at Western Racquet Club
Elm Grove, WI….Mats Wilander, former number one tennis player in the world from Sweden, will be at Western Racquet Club (WRC) on June 18th along with his traveling partner, Cameron Lickle. Wilander and Lickle will put on two 90-minute drill sessions with Western Racquet Club members. Following the drills, Wilander and Lickle will sign autographs and dine with WRC members.
“Wilander is considered one of the greatest players of all time, having won seven Grand Slam titles” says Timon Corwin, General Manager at Western Racquet Club. “Not only was he a great champion, but he is a great ambassador for the sport. It's an honor and a great opportunity for us to have him here at Western Racquet Club to share his knowledge of the game with our members and young players.”
From 1982 to 1988, Wilander won seven Grand Slam singles titles and one Grand Slam men’s doubles title. He finished 1988 ranked number one in the world. Wilander was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002 and played on Sweden’s Davis Cup Championship Team in 1984, 1985, and 1987. He captained Sweden’s Davis Cup Team from 2007-2009.
Wilander’s travelling partner, Cameron Lickle, played number one and served as captain of the Naval Academy tennis team in 2002 and 2003. Lickle was also selected as “Captain of the Captains” of all sports teams in 2003. He was inducted into the Naval Academy Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and is currently playing ITF Future Events.
Western Racquet Club is a private tennis, swimming, dining, and social club in Elm Grove, Wisconsin that boasts one of the premier junior tennis programs in the Midwest. Besides being home to the only permanent 10-and-under courts in the state, the WRC facilities include a total of 18 tennis courts - 11 hard courts and three clay courts surrounding the outdoor pool and club house. Four indoor courts are available for inclement weather as well as play during the fall and winter. WRC also owns Moorland Park Tennis Center in New Berlin which includes an additional eight indoor tennis courts.
