Brookfield Bally Total Martial Arts Team Wins
Four Grand Champion Awards
Brookfield, WI – Members of the Wisconsin Bally Total Fitness Total Martial Arts (TMA) program traveled to Rolling Meadows, IL on Sunday, April 26, 2009 for the sixth annual Bally TMA tournament and returned victorious with 116 medals and four Grand Champion awards. The Brookfield school captured the trophies for Best School, Junior Speed Breaking, Junior Power Breaking and Junior Female Sparring.
Celebrating excellence in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, the tournament drew 550 competitors from 30 schools in the Bally TMA network in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota and other programs.
“It is a great honor to take home the trophy for best school,” says Area Master Giwon Lee (Pictured). “This is the second time we have been recognized in this category in the past year and it shows the dedication of our students and their parents as well as our adult members.”
The day-long event presided over by Grand Master Peter J. Hwang covered form, breaking and sparring competitions. In addition, an elite team of Chicago-area students presented an exciting, choreographed demonstration of their skills across these disciplines.
The combined efforts of the Brookfield, West Allis and Cudahy schools earned the Wisconsin team a total of 27 gold medals, 41 silver medals and 48 bronze medals.
Sparring gold medalist Emma Megal (Pictured) of Elm Grove, WI competed in the Grand Champion round, winning her second trophy of the year in this category. This came on the heels of breaking the most boards in 20 seconds in the speed breaking competition for children 12 and under.
With a single strong downward punch, Kai Phan of Muskego, WI shattered 15 boards to win the power breaking challenge for children 12 and under.
“This program has been wonderful for our children,” says Carrie Megal. “Master Lee is a strict yet loving mentor who constantly challenges his students to gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. TMA helps them in both focus and fitness.”
